There is so much 1950s Los Angeles in this 1953 photo of the block of Vine Street north of Sunset. We’ve got the KCEA-ABC TV studios (one of the early television studios), a Santa Fe Railway ticket office, Sy Devore (the ubiquitous men’s clothing store’s first location), and a large camera store where you could get your films and home movies developed. And fairly decent parking, by the looks of it.
Hi – KTLA was quite interesting (early 1950’s). Located near (or at) Paramount Pictures, headed by Klaus Landsberg, who took my friend Bob Turk’s idea of an hour live tv show on ice (once a week) and it was a huge hit at the time (1952-54?). Turk hired my husband (Jerry Rehfield) as one of the show’s skaters.
When there was a Atomic Bomb test in Nevada, Klaus set up a co-axial cable to film the event. Within a few years Klaus was dead (because of his need to film the event).
Love always, Lou & Marlon,
