I’ve posted a lot of movie premieres over the last few years, but this is one of my favorites. This isn’t just the Oct. 7, 1931 premiere of “Alexander Hamilton,” but also the opening of a new theater: the Warner Bros.’ Western Theater at 3790 Wilshire Blvd. We now know it as the glorious Wiltern Theater at Wilshire and Western. The use of light to punctuate this photo is marvelous, especially the line of light bulbs to the left and the way the searchlights silhouette those men clustered on the sidewalk. For a comprehensive history of the building of this theater, see Mary Mallory’s account at http://bit.ly/2mdBCO9
