Here’s a photo of a bygone era: the days of transcontinental train travel. This photo of baggage handlers at the Santa Fe Railroad’s La Grande Station is circa 1937. The station, built in 1893, was truly a unique architectural gem, and a great shame that it needed to be torn down two years after this photo was taken due to the construction of Union Station, which brought all the major railway lines together under one roof. The La Grande terminal was located on the corner of 2nd street and Santa Fe Ave, just a few blocks south of Union Station.
