In 1950, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz formed the now-famous Desilu Studios. In late 1957, they bought the RKO studios for $6 million, which seems ridiculously cheap now, especially as the purchase also included the Forty Acres studio lot in Culver City. This is where David O. Selznick filmed much of “Gone with the Wind.” This photo shows the Desilu sign out front of the same building where the Selznick International Pictures sign once hung. The Cuban bandleader and the former chorus girl did awfully well for themselves, didn’t they?
