Beverly Wilshire Hotel on Wilshire Boulevard, Beverly Hills, 1929In this 1929 photo of Wilshire Blvd, we can see the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, which at this time would have only been open a year. It’s facing Rodeo Drive whose eastern corner is a vacant lot (!) western corner would, in 1931, become the Beverly Hills location of the Brown Derby restaurant.

Hard to imagine at one time Beverly Hills ever looked like this – beyond the hotel – as far as the eye can see – it’s just low buildings and open land and foliage!

Here’s a 1930 postcard view looking southwest with the Beverly Wilshire Hotel on the east side of N. Beverly Drive and the Brown Derby sign on the far right.
