This night shot of the Sunset Strip was taken in 1957, right at the height of film noir. It looks like it could taken from some black-and-white movie about murder and mayhem along Hollywood’s premier playground. I love how those billboards shine like warning beacons as the Strip bends and curves its way to the Chateau Marmont. This was not the night to lean to far over your hotel balcony. One shove and you’re a gonner.
No idea what a bungalow went for in the ’50s, but here’s what the backside looked like – certainly not glamorous in my opinion!
