Sunset Blvd near its terminus with Pacific Coast Highway, Pacific Palisades, 1952

Sunset Blvd. near its terminus with the Pacific Coast Highway, Pacific Palisades, 1952In this 1952 photo, we get a taste of what Sunset Blvd looked like near its terminus with Pacific Coast Highway in Pacific Palisades. I’m guessing this is around about where the Self-Realization Center where Sunset makes that final turns and heads to the ocean. If Sunset Boulevard still looked like this, I probably go for more Sunday drives.

Boy, what a gorgeous scenic pic – the car really makes it for me. Perfect lighting, looks like a leisurely Sunday drive and I’m with Martin, let’s go! Wish Hollywood still looked like this.

    Thanks, Martin.

Dear Martin: This is my all-time fav drive: from one end of Sunset to the other & this is my very fav part of that drive. I recall the polo field and a fairly new UCLA, among other wonderful places. Thanks for sharing & love, L&M.

Dear Martin: your Sunset Blvd. post got me to thinking. Re the Polo Field: I think it belonged to Will Rogers who, sadly, died in an airplane crash piloted by Wiley Post (in 1935). What a loss! Will’s son was the editor of the Beverly Hills weekly (I think) newspaper during the time I attended Beverly Hills High School (1945-1948).
    Love, L&M

Louella, I used to also enjoy that drive and have stopped at Will’s beautiful estate many times.

Here’s Will on his polo field.
