Grauman's Chinese Theatre the night of the premiere of Howard Hughes’ “Hell’s Angels,” Hollywood Boulevard, May 27, 1930The premiere of Howard Hughes’ “Hell’s Angels” at Grauman’s Chinese Theater on May 27, 1930 really must have been a super-big deal because there are so many photos taken of that night. Most of them were aerial photos taken from roof tops showing us the vast spectacle of it all. I like this one because we can see more clearly what Grauman’s itself looked like. Those letters in the vertical signs must have been at least the height of an average person. How exciting it must have been to be standing in the crowd that night—or better still, be lucky enough to score an invite.

Here’s footage of the premiere at Grauman’s. All those stars and not just up in the sky! What a night it was is right, Martin.
