Ambassador Hotel entrance, Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, circa late 1930sThe entrance to the Ambassador Hotel on Wilshire Blvd never changed that much, which was a good thing because that tower at the front probably became the thing drivers looked out for when heading for a night at the Cocoanut Grove or a drink in the Venetian Room. Later, the hotel’s name would be spelled out vertically, but I can hardly imagine it was necessary. That tower was hard to miss. I love the streetlamps along this stretch of Wilshire during this time (circa late 1930s) – they’re so elegant, aren’t they?
