Fans gather outside the Carthay Circle Theater for the premiere of “The Life of Emile Zola" - Sept. 9, 1937I’ve always thought that the Carthay Circle Theater gave Grauman’s a run for its money in the Glamorous Hollywood Premiere race. It’s pretty hard to beat that spectacular tower that soared over the movie fans gathered to witness the parade of celebs. This particular night – September 9th, 1937- they were watching the arrival procession for the premiere of “The Life of Emile Zola” which ended up being the first film to receive 10 Academy Award nominations (of which it won three.)
