Universal Studios, Universal City, California, circa mid 1910sIsn’t it amazing what a difference a century can make? I’m kidding, of course, but if you’ve ever been to Universal Studios in Universal City on the north side of the Hollywood hills, you’ll probably have noticed that there’s now a little bit more to it than just a dirt road with a plain little sign erected next to something that looks no better than a temporary garden shed stuck together with duct tape. But I doubt even Carl Laemmle would have guessed what his venture would morph into a hundred years later.

It sure had changed by the 1920s.
