Outside Tom Breneman's, Vine Street, Hollywood, circa mid 1940sThere’s nothing like a vivid Kodachrome photo to bring a slice of 1940s Hollywood to life. Tom Breneman’s restaurant on Vine Street north of Sunset Blvd became famous when Breneman started hosting his “Breakfast in Hollywood” radio show, which aired on the Blue Network (later known as ABC) from 1941 to 1948. That’s a 1946 Ford parked the gift store next door so “Breakfast in Hollywood” would have been at the height of its popularity, which explains the knot of people out front.
