On the set of the chariot race in “Ben-Hur” (1959)

On the set of the chariot race in "Ben-Hur" (1959)I’ve always thought that it must have been a logistical challenge of militaristic proportions to film the chariot race sequence in 1959’s Ben-Hur. I don’t know if this is the entire team that pulled it off, but I’m guessing these were at least the key players – both on screen and off. I’m a little surprised it didn’t take more people than that! Ben-Hur was shot at Cinecittà Studios in Rome between May 1958 and Jan 1959 and looking at this photo, I’m now thinking about the work and effort that went into building that magnificent set.

Hi – I actually thought the Chariot Race in the 1925 version was the better of the 2. What do you think? Love always, L&M.

Hi – have you watched the 1925 version? I think the chariot race in that version was better than the later one. Love always, L&M.

I can see my dad, Aldo Favilli, in the bottom left group of sculptors who sculpted all those humongous pieces! He also worked on the sets of Moses and Cleopatra!
