Hopeful extras lingering outside the Paramount Studios front gate, 1939

Hopeful extras lingering outside the Paramount Studios front gate, 1939I imagine this was a pretty common scene outside Paramount during the 1930s – people lingering outside the studio gates in the hopes that they might be hired as extras or something. I wonder how many of these people actually found themselves on the set of some picture. This photo was taken in 1939 aka “Hollywood’s Greatest Year” so maybe some of these guys ended up as French Foreign Legionaries in “Beau Geste.”
