Given the endless oceans of urban sprawl that is now the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles, it’s hard to imagine that it ever looked like this. Here we have a photo of Van Nuys taken in 1910 just as the first roads were going down. I’m not entirely sure, but my guess is that this is either Van Nuys Boulevard or Sepulveda Boulevard being built—the future site of many a 1950s and 60s Saturday weekend cruising.
My aunt had a 25 acre ranch there (1937-42) where we spent great week-ends. An amazing place. She sold it all to John Scott Trotter in 1942 for some absurd price – $40,000 comes to mind. A business woman she was not. It was called Marsons Farm & please let me know if you find any info about it. Love, L&M
