Los Angeles Civic Center buildings lit up by the light on an atomic bomb blast in Nevada, 1955When I first saw this 1955 photo of the Los Angeles Civic Center buildings lit up at night, I thought “Oh, how pretty!” But then I read the caption and learned the whole of downtown was being lit by the light on an atomic bomb blast all the way over in Nevada. Yeech!

Klaus Landsberg (KTLA founder) was determined to be the first to televise from the site & he strung co-axial cables from LA to as close to bomb site as possible.
