In 1931, the May Company Department Store celebrated its golden jubilee. I’m guessing (but it’s only a guess) that part of the P.R. was to dust off an old horse-drawn streetcar and give people rides on it. If this photo—taken at the busy corner of 8th Street and Broadway in downtown Los Angeles—is anything to go by, it was a popular move. There’s a whole crowd waiting to get on!
