Hotel Laguna on South Coast Hwy, Laguna Beach, California, 1938

Hotel Laguna on South Coast Hwy, Laguna Beach, California, 1938This 1938 view of the Hotel Laguna at 425 South Coast Hwy, Laguna Beach surprised me. I knew it was a popular vacation spot, but back in the 1930s, it wouldn’t have been easy to get to. So I wasn’t expecting to see quite so many cars and it looks like it was as hard to find a park back then as it does in Laguna Beach today. The good news is that the view hasn’t changed much.

Hi – Jerry & I spent our honeymoon at Laguna Beach (1951). My cousin Maggie Ettinger had a beach house there which she loaned to us for the 6 days each of us had off from work. Great memory. Love, L&M

My aunt and uncle had a duplex a about 100 yards from the beach. My family used to spend summers there. I slept in the converted attic and loved the sound of the surf. My cousin and I used to go down to play in the tide pools. This was back in the 50’s. The Pageant of the Masters is still one of the best Summer treats.
