Although hardly anything in this circa 1920 shot of Beverly Hills looks the same (for instance, there is now more than one house in Beverly Hills) this view of the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and N. Beverly Dr. is still pretty much now as it was back then – the 1.9 mile strip of land called Beverly Gardens Park with the iconic electrified “Beverly Hills” sign and lily pond. Considering the value of real estate in that area, it’s pretty miraculous that such a precious ribbon of green space hasn’t been developed into a row of McMansions.
The BEVERLY HILLS sign in February 2017:
That Tudor house we can see in the far left of the 1920 photo stands at 1305 Park Way. It was was built in 1907 and is known as the Elizabeth Hopper Residence. It’s still a private home today.
