007’s popularity was in full swing when Goldfinger came to Grauman’s Chinese Theatre on Christmas Day, 1964. It came in after the 17-week run of Mary Poppins which must have been a hard act to follow. Mind you, the movie had a 16-week run, which ain’t too shabby, if you ask me. I kind of wish they still had that red awning running down the middle of the forecourt—some shelter from the LA sun would be nice as you check out the cemented handprints.
I met Lois Maxwell (Miss Moneypenny) some years back, when the 007 Aston Martin was touring at the Franklin Institute in Philly. I charmed her when I asked for an autograph on a picture of Atalanta Shore from the Gerry Anderson TV show “Stingray” (La Maxwell was the voice actress). A lovely lady and quite nice! 🙂
