Bob’s Big Boy restaurant, Riverside Drive, Burbank, California, 1960

Bob's Big Boy restaurant, Riverside Drive, Burbank, California, 1960Bob’s Big Boy restaurant is a chain that started in Glendale in 1936. The one pictured here is in Toluca Lake near Warner Bros. and Universal Studios, and was #6 in the chain. Now the oldest in the chain, it was built in 1949. This photo was taken in 1960 but could have been taken anytime between then and now. It’s a magnet for people who love old cars, especially from the peak era of drive-in burger joints with car service.

And in 1954:

  1. Al Donnelly says:

Always known as Toluca as long as the original Burbank (Bob’s #2) locale on S. San Fernando remained operating. After that one was gone, this becomes referred to as Burbank. (It actually always was just inside the city limits.)
