Eddie Brandstatter’s Montmartre Café opened in December 1922 on the second floor of 6763 Hollywood Boulevard and found rapid success as Hollywood’s first nightclub, attracting stars and fans from all over. It was also a popular for afternoon tea dances and ladies luncheon. This photo was taken in 1928 and my guess is that this bunch of hotsy-totsy flappers had had such a whoopee of a time that they wanted their photo taken as a memento. And I’m sure glad they did.
Here’s a close up of three of them. I call them “the ring-leaders.” Looking more closely at their faces, I can easily picture them being around today.

There’s a song in the original No, No, Nanette…the chorus girls sing a song called ‘Flappers Are We’. I think that song would be very appropriate for this photo.
