The caption on this photo simply read “The Oasis, Hollywood, 1939” But the only Oasis I could find in the 1939 LA City Directory was one at 962 South Broadway in downtown LA, which put it next to the United Artists Theater. So now I’m imaging going to see “Wuthering Heights” at the UA and then slipping next door to The Oasis for a soothing nightcap before taking the red car home. Oh, and check out that marvelous zigzag terrazzo floor out front! Of course, being Hollywood, this could just be a movie set…
Simply exquisite.
