Whoever took this shot was probably just thought, “It’s just a parking lot” but to us it’s a circa 1946 glimpse into a day in the life of the Beverly Hills Hotel. I’d love a chance to get behind the wheel of any one of those cars and take a Sunday drive around mid-1940s Los Angeles!
Susan says:I kind of remember the summer symphony season always starting in July. However they had other functions there before the summer symphony season started. I think the symphony season downtown at the Philharmonic Auditorium ended in March or April. They had a couple months off to regroup as the Bowl Symphony Orchestra before they started up again. I was at the Bowl for Frank Sinatra bowl debut the year before in Aug. 1943. What a night that was. Judy Garland in ’46 is another I recall well at the Bowl. You used to be able to walk into the bowl in the daytime to watch rehearsals for free.
