Miracle Mile : Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles in Kodachrome, circa late 1940sThis vivid Kodachrome shot is circa late 1940s and shows us a stretch of the Miracle Mile part of Wilshire Blvd looking east from around Ridgeley Drive. The taller building on the right was the Desmond’s department store, and farther down is the Dominguez-Wilshire Building, which housed a women’s clothing store called Myer Siegel. On the right hand side is the El Rey Theatre. I’m happy to report that all three buildings are still with us…which is more than be said for that beautiful blue mid-40s Buick in the foreground.
