In this age of instant news available wherever you go 24/7 it can be easy to forget that in years gone by, people got a lot of their information from newsreels at the movies. It was especially important during WWII. Newsreels were so popular that theaters showing only newsreels popped up. There was one on Hollywood Boulevard near the Pantages. This one was at 744 S. Does anyone remember if cartoons where shown between the news stories?
When I was a child my Grandfather would say, “Sparky, do you want to go to the movies?” The only movie he was talking about was the Newsreel. I was a young child at the time and i have a vague memory of watching cartoons.
