I love finding photos of an incomplete Hollywood sign—it’s like witnessing history in the making. The builders were only six letters in, so this photo was probably taken mid 1923. Those three guys appear to be seeding the ground. I’m assuming that because Hollywoodland was a property development, they’re doing it turn bare dirt into grassland to make it more attractive to potential buyers. They needn’t have bothered because it took a long while for the area to take off.
