Oh, what a different time it was. This photo of Ocean Park Promenade in Santa Monica shows how people went for a walk at the beach circa 1907 – fully dressed with hats, collars, ties, and floor-length dresses. I love the balcony top right – it looks like people could take a chair and watch all the crazy Victorian shenanigans from a bird’s-eye view.
I’ll wager that even in 1920, Katie M. Porter, widow of Henry Clay Porter, would dress up to the hilt to promenade on the Ocean Park Promenade from her apartment at 39 Rose Avenue that she rented for her extended stay from her home in Newbern, Dyer County, Tennessee.

BIRTH 11 JAN 1873 • Mooring, Lake County, Tennessee
DEATH 10 MAR 1928 • Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee
Katie was the daughter of Wyatt Mooring, one of the founders of Lake County Tennessee. He owned 1,750 acres of rich Mississippi River bottom land when he died in 1874 in what once was Obion County but became Lake County at his urging.
