Pershing Square in downtown Los Angeles from the top of a double-decker bus in the 1930s

Pershing Square in downtown Los Angeles from the top of a double-decker bus in the 1930sIn this “slice of Angeleno life” photo we have a shot in the 1930s of three people wearing hats and furs (which we no longer wear) taking a ride on an open-air double decker bus (which we no longer have) past Pershing Square (which is still there but no longer filled with all those shady trees greenery.) The traffic down Hill Street appears to be very light so I wonder if this was a Sunday.

Also no longer there: The dual-gauge tracks for the narrow gauge Los Angeles Railways streetcars and the Pacific Electric interurbans. I wonder if the tracks have been torn out or simply paved over? 🙂

I saw somewhere that the people in this photo are photographer Herman Shulteis’ wife and his visiting in-laws on a sightseeing trip around DTLA
