June 1961 was the start of a big summer for Universal Studios. Although it had opened in October 1960, “Spartacus” was still big enough to warrant double billboard space outside their studios on Lankershim Blvd in Universal City. Kirk Douglas also starred with Rock Hudson in “The Last Sunset.” Meanwhile, Sandra Dee was having a big year with “Come September” and “Romanoff and Juliet.” (Actually my favorite thing in this photo is that pink station wagon, although I’m rather partial to the white car parked in front of it.)
Three out of the five cars in that pic are Cadillacs, which says something about that era in Hollywood…
