I love finding production photos like these. In this one we see Busby Berkeley directing Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney in the “I Got Rhythm” number from MGM’s “Girl Crazy” (1943) This number required so many performers that there seems to be at least as many people in front of the camera as there were behind it. This is MGM in the 40s – golden-era Hollywood movie magic making at its peak. You can see this number on YouTube: http://bit.ly/2h0MVZS
Wasn’t this the production number where Busby Berkeley (a known slave driver) got Judy & Mickey so high on amphetamine that in the final cut they both look crazy/frenzied?

From memory, I think it was more of a case where he drove them so hard they were both losing their cool. Even Mickey – and he was hard to piss off!
