I don’t think I’ve ever seen a photo of the Vine Street Brown Derby from such a low angle before. The photographer must have been sitting on the ground or possibly even laying on it. I can’t imagine that happened much in 1944, which in the approximate date of this shot. I love that awning reaching from the front door across the sidewalk to the curb. You see those in New York but not so much in Los Angeles—I suppose because there’s a lot less chance of hairdos and furs being messed up from rain and snow.
