Life magazine must have done a huge spread on the opening day of Disneyland on July 17, 1955 because there are quite a few wonderful and telling photos by them. This one is a shot of the Storybook Land Canal Boats and Casey Jr. Railroad in Fantasyland. I’ve become so used to Disneyland being continually crowded that it’s a constant source of amazement to me how few people there are in these photos. What bliss it must have been to wander the park without being jostled, nor having to wait in line for three hours for a four-minute ride.
