There are two things I’d like to note about this dynamic shot of the corner of Broadway and 6th Street in downtown Los Angeles come time during the 1920s. Look how densely packed that sidewalk is. It’s elbow-to-elbow! Also there appears to be no traffic signals – I guess somehow the cars and the pedestrians and the streetcars all managed to negotiate the intersection without anybody being run over.
Kelly says: There are traffic signals. Just not where we have them now. The signals for that time period are by the light pole with the 5 white globes. For traffic heading away from us, the signals are to the right, by the sidewalk and out of view of the camera.
Andie says: There were often police BRAVELY directing traffic, standing on little boxes.
