I don’t know where on Weyburn Ave in the Westwood Village area of Los Angeles this bookshop stood, but they sure kept late hours. With the darkness of night encroaching from all sides and that sole streetlight burning like a beacon, it almost looks like a movie set, doesn’t it? This wonderfully atmospheric shot was taken in 1938.
The book store open at night was at 10926 Weyburn Avenue (between Broxton Avenue and Westwood Boulevard) in Westwood Village (1938). The left half of the building was the Elizabeth Ward lamp shop, which opened in 1937.

What a great picture. Thanks.
