Looking north up Vine Street Prospect Ave (later Hollywood Blvd) when it was a watermelon field, 1907.It’s hard to believe that this idyllic country scene would later evolve into one of the most famous corners in the world: Hollywood and Vine. This photo was taken in 1907 when much of the land around Vine St was taken up with watermelon fields. In this view, we’re looking north up Vine St from what was then known as Prospect Ave but in the early 1910s was renamed Hollywood Boulevard. Oh boy – if the people living in that house on the left could see what their neighborhood looks like now!
