Sunset Strip with the Sunset Tower and the Casanova Club, circa 1936Here we have a view of the Sunset Strip, heading west, circa 1936. In the background, we can see the sign for the Casanova Club, which opened at 8383 Sunset in August 1936. The building on the left is the superbly Art Deco Sunset Tower — back then an apartment building that stood on a reasonably quiet stretch where driving and parking wasn’t yet a source of stress and anxiety. It’s still there and is an upscale hotel with a rooftop bar whose view is hard to beat. (And for the car enthusiasts, facing us are a 1935 Ford, circa 1935 Chevrolet and a circa 1935 Dodge.)
