Waitress serving a customer at Carpenter's Drive-In Restaurant, corner of Wilshire Blvd and Virgil Ave, Los Angeles, circa 1930s (1)Here’s a slice of circa 1930s life: A busy waitress serves a customer at Carpenter’s Drive-In Restaurant at the corner of Wilshire Blvd and Vermont Ave. In the background, we can see the Bullocks Wilshire department store, aka the “Cathedral to Commerce.” I would have thought that working outdoors, our waitress would have worn her hat atop her head to protect her from the sun, but she’s wearing it at a jaunty angle so I guess it’s just for show.
