At the corner of Crescent Heights and Sunset Boulevards, driving east, circa 1960I love finding casual across-the-hood shots. Somebody was driving east along Sunset Boulevard and took this photo when they were crossing Crescent Heights Boulevard. On the right we can see the iconic Googie Coffee Shop with the black-and-white stripped roof, and next to that was (the recently remodeled) Schwab’s Pharmacy. Right behind them would have been the Garden of Allah, but this shot was taken circa 1960, and the Garden was torn down late summer of 1959.

And a couple of years later, in 1973:

My grandparents lived just south on Crescent Heights and we would go to Googies and Schwab’s quite a bit. Across was Greenblatt’s Deli (still there).
