“Tarnished Lady” playing the Pantages Theater, Hollywood Blvd, 1931

"Tarnished Lady" playing the Pantages Theater, Hollywood Blvd, 1931This photo of the Pantages Theater was taken in 1931 when Paramount’s “Tarnished Lady” starting Tallulah Bankhead was playing. Look at that packed marquee. You saw not only the movie, a newsreel, and a Mickey Mouse cartoon, but you were also treated to a Fanchon and Marcos show with the Slim Martin Orchestra. In the 30s and 40s, this brother and sister team put on pre-show live extravaganzas that would feature up to 48 dancers. At their peak, they were putting on up to 52 of these productions a year. I sure wish someone had thought to film them!

Great picture of the Pantages Theater. They knew how to design cinemas back then!
