In 1929, newspaper magnate, William Randolph Hearst, sent the Graf Zeppelin dirigible on a 20-day flight that circumnavigated the world—quite a feat in 1929. On August 8th, it landed at Los Angeles at Mines Field, which later became the site for LA International Airport. This chap arrived in his glorious Packard to see for himself what must have been an awe-inspiring sight.
Actually that glorious Packard was being delivered to the captain, Hugo Eckener. I have stamped originals of this picture and one of Herr Eckener waving at the camera from the driver’s seat. Both pictures were taken by A.R. Hromatka, a professional photographer in Los Angeles.
My Pleasure! I would be happy to send you copies of the other pictures from this day. Let me know. I would also love to know where the Packard ended up. it’s a beauty!

Thanks for that information, Robert. That’s wonderful to know!
