Looking northwest along Wilshire Blvd through Westlake Park (later MacArthur Park), Los Angeles circa 1934

Looking northwest along Wilshire Blvd through Westlake Park (later MacArthur Park), Los Angeles circa 1934In this circa 1934 photo, we’re treated to a virtually empty Wilshire Blvd as it winds its way through Westlake Park (spelled “West Lake” in the caption, and renamed MacArthur Park in 1942.) I wonder if that solitary driver we can see appreciated how lucky he had it—no traffic jams for him!

I used to work for Aetna Insurance that had their offices right across the street. I remember when the city drained the duck pond. The smell was unbelievable. Many restaurant workers used to park around there in the early hours before going to work. This was in the 70’s. Langer’s Deli, still there, is across from the southeast corner.
