The pedestrians perambulating along the Venice Beach walkway in this 1926 photo are fairly heavily dressed, so I’m guessing it wasn’t the height of summer. Still, I envy them all that elbow room. It seems like every time I go down to Venice, that walkway is packed with a never-ending pageant of humanity in all its glorious plumage (to put it kindly.) But look at those two-light streetlamps. They’re probably not nearly as efficient as the ones there now, but they’re so much prettier!
