I wish I could find more information on this photo because it’s my favorite one that I’ve posted in a while. It’s the rear view of the Pantages Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard during what I assume is a big movie premiere. The Pantages opened on June 4th, 1930, and from what I can see of the cark parked in the lot, they look pretty early, so this might be when the Pantages itself opened with MGM’s “The Floradora Girl” starring Marion Davies.
Hi – re Pantages theatre, rear view: my office at Young&Rubicam was in the Taft building (west corner from the Pantages) & one of my memories is of an event held at the Pantages called “The Unbirthday Cake”. As I recall, I was one of the judges & was overwhelmed by the number of people who showed up toting their “Unbirthday Cakes” Ah memories! Looking forward to this year’s Academy Awards since my neighbor & friend Lois Burwell Toll is in charge of many of this year’s details. Love, L&M

That is such a great photo of the Pantages Theatre. Imagine being able to attend such an evening!
I can imagine it, Peter–and do–and quite often!
