I’m not exactly sure where the Hollywood-Vine service station and parking garage was on Vine Street in Hollywood, but at the extreme left we can see what looks like might be the Brown Derby restaurant and the eastern side of the Taft Building. I particularly like the “Hertz Driv Ur Self” sign out front. I’d imagine that in 1930, when this photo was taken, rental cars were still fairly rare.
You are correct – this parking was just south of the Brown Derby on Vine St. You will notice the sign for free parking for Dyas customers. The Dyas building later became the Broadway department store. It was a large lot and is probably still there in some form.
Well, looking closely at the sign, one can see DYAS for the free parking sign, so, presumably, the lot adjoined the B. H. Dyas Co. department store located on the southwest corner of Hollywood & Vine?
