If we had stood in 1912 at the front of the Bernheimer Mansion (later known as the Yamashiro restaurant) atop the hillside overlooking Hollywood, this would have been our view. There’s still some open land, but homes have started to fill in most of the lots north of Hollywood Boulevard (which had only recently changed its name from Prospect Ave). More open land south of the Boulevard, and beyond that, it’s all open land with oil wells pumping up all that black gold.
