Burbank Airport in the San Fernando Valley isn’t a huge facility, but I have never there when it hasn’t been bustling with passengers and traffic. So it came as a shock to see this photo taken in 1931, a year after it opened, so clean and clear, and with such beautiful lines—who knew the terminal was originally Spanish revival? Nothing of that remains anymore.
Interior shot:
The airport has had a succession of names over the years:
They can call it what they want but it’ll always be the Bob Hope airport to me.
To this 72 year old who grew up in Burbank. It will always be just plain old LOCKHEED.
And fair enough, too!
