This is a bit of a sad sight to see: a Pacific Electric streetcar on the Glendale-Burbank line prepares for its final run on June, 19 1955. You may have gone to oblivion but more than sixty years later, we haven’t forgotten you!
Yorkman says: “I think you confused the 2 short Hill St tunnels with the Hollywood subway, which ran about 0.9 mile from the Subway Terminal bldg, 425 S Hill, to Toluca Yard, Beverly & Glendale Blvds. Please see ERHA.org, article on the Hollywood subway.“
The conductor in the photo is Ernest Abbott, my maternal grandfather.
Is he really, Brad? How wonderful! Thanks for sharing that with us!
Yes and there is a large photo of the same at the Barnes & Noble at the Americana in Glendale.
I don’t remember the last time I was in a mall (stooopid Covid) but if I’m ever there again, I’ll go looking for it!
The people in the photo look way too happy.
