Looking east along Wilshire Boulevard from the top of the Town House Hotel, Los Angeles, circa 1940sIn this glorious 1940s view looking east from the top of the Town House Hotel we can see where Wilshire Blvd bends at Lafayette Park. In the lower right corner is Simon’s drive-in restaurant at the Hoover St corner, which, by the 1950s, had become Stan’s. Traffic is so light here that I wonder if this was taken during the war years during gas rationing.

    Thank you for the glorious photos. What a beautiful town LA is/was. I am always amazed by the many Studebakers on the road in photos from the late 40’s-50’s. There are two in the middle photo. Seemingly selling so many cars, how could Studebaker have gone out of business so soon afterward?
