Line of facades for shooting Hollywood movies, outdoor backlot, circa 1920s

Line of facades for shooting Hollywood movies, outdoor backlot, circa 1920sI wish I had more information about this photo than I do, which is to say that I have no information other than an educated guess that it was taken some time during the first 20 years of Hollywood film-making. But I thought it gave us an interesting glimpse into how flimsy those sets were. This looks like a line of stores shoved together to look like a shopping street for the purposes of filming who-knows-what movie. From this angle we can see that they are just that: facades. And of course, the more cynical among us might even say it’s an accurate reflection of the entire Hollywood macrocosm!

A thought – you might attach this photo along with a message to Marc Wanamaker about some information regarding the view.

Wild guess…not the church in Denton for Rocky Horror Picture Show! But we still want to go, to the midnite, double-feature, picture show, in the back row oh, oh. From R, K, O, oh, oh, oh. Great Scott, there they go again!
